Abba Eban
Abba Eban (1915-2002) was an Israeli diplomat and politician who served as Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations and as its Minister of Foreign Affairs. He is widely regarded as one of the major architects of modern Israeli diplomacy and the statesmanlike face of Israel in the world. A linguistic polyglot, he was known for his eloquent, erudite speeches in multiple languages, especially his signature Hebrew and English. Eban's leadership played a key role in facilitating diplomatic ties with the United States, Germany, and many other nations. He was also instrumental in the Camp David Accords and the signing of peace treaties with Jordan and Egypt. Eban was awarded numerous honors and accolades for his contributions to world peace, including the Israel Prize in 1963, the Presidential Medal of Freedom from the United States in 1991, and the Order of the White Eagle from Poland in 1992.
