Adam Smith was a Scottish economist, philosopher, and author. He is best known for his 1776 book, An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations, which is considered to be the first modern work of economics. His ideas about free markets, free trade, and economic structures shaped many of the modern economic systems that we have today, and his concepts and theories have remained influential to this day.
