Aimee Semple McPherson
Aimee Semple McPherson (1890–1944) was a pioneering and influential Pentecostal evangelist, faith healer and media celebrity. She founded the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel, now one of the largest Pentecostal denominations in the United States, and although she was constantly controversial, she also drew some of the largest audiences of any religious figure of her era. She was known for her public faith healings, her flamboyant lifestyle and her staunchly pro-American views, and her International Church quickly became one of the most prolific broadcasters and publishers in religious media. McPherson's dramatic life story – successes and tragedies, scandals and triumphs, as well as numerous other controversies – also became fertile fodder for the press of her time.
