Alan Bennett

Alan Bennett is an English playwright, screenwriter, actor and author. He is most famous for his stage plays and for presenting the BBC television series Talking Heads. Bennett first rose to prominence in Beyond the Fringe, the 1960s sketch comedy series which also starred Jonathan Miller, Peter Cook, and Dudley Moore. His plays, often featuring comic monologues and poignant themes, have been performed on the West End stage, on Broadway, and in the television and film mediums. He also wrote several episodes for the BBC sketch comedy series The Two Ronnies and for the popular sitcom Bottom. In 2003, he received the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry and was knighted in the New Year's honours list of the same year.
