Albert Jay Nock

Albert Jay Nock (1870-1945) was an American libertarian social critic and author. He is best known for his influential libertarian views as expressed in books such as Our Enemy the State (1935), but he wrote extensively on a variety of topics including philosophy, education, and literature. He was a fierce opponent of the New Deal and a proponent of individualism and free markets. He was a fierce critic of the American state, and convinced that the only hope for realizing liberty was through the establishment of 'irreligious voluntary principle'. His views had a profound influence on members of the Austrian School of economic thought, and he had numerous disciples, including novelist Ayn Rand.
