Alexis Carrel
Alexis Carrel was a French surgeon, biologist and Nobel Laureate best known for his pioneering work in vascular suture and transplantation techniques. He is also known for his work in tissue culture, a technique that enables the long-term cultivation of tissues outside of the body. Carrel was the first surgeon to perform plastic surgery to repair broken blood vessels and developed the Carrel Patch, which is still used today to repair large arterial defects. He wrote a number of books advocating for eugenics and was a member of the violent movement Action Francaise during World War I.
