Alfred De Musset Quotes

Alfred De Musset

Alfred de Musset (1810–1857) was a French poet, playwright, and novelist. He was adored by the Romantics for his passionate and sometimes melancholic writings. His most famous works include his collection of poems La Nuit de Mai (1829) and his play Lorenzaccio (1834). He was also an accomplished scriptwriter for the theater, and he wrote the librettos for the operas William Tell (1844) and Takla Makan (1847). De Musset had several tumultuous love affairs and his passionate correspondence with the poet and novelist George Sand, culminating with their disastrous brief liaison and marriage, makes up many of his later melancholy works.
