Alfred de Vigny Quotes

Alfred de Vigny

Alfred de Vigny was a French poet and novelist best known for his works of romanticism inspired by the Napoleonic era. His works such as "Chatterton" (1835) and "Servitude et grandeur militares" (1835) were often set against the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars. He is also known for his tragedies such as "L'Eglantine" (1826) and the iconic play "Le Maréchal ferrant" (1826). Although his work is often overshadowed by such contemporaries as Victor Hugo, Vigny was a powerful writer whose works remain classic pieces of French literature.
