Alice Roosevelt Longworth (February 12, 1884 – February 20, 1980) was an American socialite, activist, writer, and the eldest child of U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt. She was dubbed America's "most famous unconventional first daughter", and known for her outspokenness and wit. She was also the first President's daughter to become a political hostess, later in life. Roosevelt Longworth held numerous positions in public office and was particularly active in the League of Women Voters. She was also a proponent of women's suffrage, helping to mobilize support for the passage of the 19th Amendment. Roosevelt Longworth wrote several articles and books and served as an editor of the Washington Times-Herald, a newspaper founded by her husband. In later life, she maintained a respected presence in Washington's social elite and hosted many influential political figures, including Senators, Heads of State, and Supreme Court Justices.
