Alice Walker

Alice Walker is an award-winning American author, poet, and activist. She was born in 1944 in Eatonton, Georgia, and was the eighth and youngest child of sharecroppers. She is best known for her Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, “The Color Purple,” which was made into a movie with the same title. Her other works include many other books of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry as well as activism for human rights and environmentalism. Over her career, she has won numerous awards and honors, including a lifetime membership to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the 1996 National Book Award in Fiction.
