Allen Lane
Allen Lane (1902–1970) was an English publisher and businessman who founded Penguin Books. He is credited as one of the key figures in transforming the book trade in the 1930s, helping to introduce the mass market paperback to Britain. He had a strong influence in pushing for increased literacy and the democratization of higher education through the Open University. Lane's innovative business style, managerial skills and eye for quality saw Penguin become the leading publisher it remains today.
