Ambrose Bierce was an American author and renowned journalist of the late 19th century and early twentieth century. Known for his sharp wit and caustic sense of humor, his most famous works are The Devil's Dictionary, Tales of Soldiers and Civilians, and The Haunted Valley. He is also credited with introducing a number of phrases into the American lexicon, such as "An acre in the moon" and "Blowing off steam."
