Amos Oz

Amos Oz (1939 – 2018) was an Israeli writer, novelist and journalist, known as Israel's most widely read author. Born Amos Klausner in Jerusalem, Oz described himself as a "Hebrew writer in the full and classical meaning of the term". He wrote over 30 books, including the works of fiction, "My Michael" and "A Tale of Love and Darkness," and many nonfiction books such as "In the Land of Israel" and "Israel, Palestine, and Peace". He devoted his life to writing, teaching and advocating for a peaceful two-state solution between Palestinians and Israelis and was vocal in his support of progressive values. In 1998, he was awarded the Israel Prize for literature and in 2018, he was posthumously awarded the 2019 Nelly Sachs Prize.
