Amy Vanderbilt (1908-1974) was an American author and etiquette expert. She was best known for her book Amy Vanderbilt's Complete Book of Etiquette: A Guide to Gracious Living, which has sold more than 4 million copies since it was first published in 1952. Vanderbilt was a radio, television, and magazine personality whose advice on proper behavior and manners based on the customs and traditions of the upper classes was widely popular across the United States. She was the founding president of the Amy Vanderbilt Foundation, a trustee of the National Gallery of Art, and an advisory board member for the New York Blood Center. She received numerous awards for her excellence in public service, including honorary doctorates and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
