Andrew Johnson Quotes on man

Andrew Johnson

Andrew Johnson (1808 – 1875) was the 17th President of the United States, serving from 1865 to 1869. He was a Southern Democrat who succeeded Abraham Lincoln and opposed Radical Reconstruction, the period of Reconstruction enacted by Congress after the Civil War. Johnson was the first president to be impeached by the House of Representatives, but was ultimately acquitted by the Senate. As president, Johnson advocated for his “Restoration” plan of moderate Reconstruction, which aimed to restore many pre-war Confederate officials and politicians to their former roles in government. He is considered one of the worst American presidents and is noted for his frequent use of Presidential vetoes.
