Andrew Wyeth (1917–2009) was an American painter from Pennsylvania. He was a realist painter best known for his vivid depictions of American scenery and everyday life. His works were widely recognized and widely collected throughout the United States, making him one of the most widely acclaimed American painters of the 20th century. Widely known for his painting Christina's World, Wyeth often explored themes of personal alienation and mystery through his art. He also often focused on regional subjects and his work frequently depicted the Pennsylvania and Maine regions. He was an artist of extraordinary popular appeal and the recipient of numerous awards including the prestigious National Medal of Arts.
