Aneurin Bevan

Aneurin Bevan was a Welsh Labour Party politician and a leading figure in the founding of the National Health Service in the United Kingdom. He served as Member of Parliament for Ebbw Vale from the 1929 general election until his death in 1960. He was also a left-wing advocate for social reform, and a passionate advocate for the collectivisation of industry. Despite his opposition to Labour party leader Hugh Gaitskell, he was appointed Shadow Secretary of State for Health in 1950. He was also the Minister of Health from 1945–51 and held a variety of posts in the governments of Clement Attlee and Harold Wilson. He was considered a national hero in Wales and was a renowned orator, becoming known as The Voice of Wales.
