After several small television roles, Margulies received wide recognition for her starring role as Carol Hathaway on NBC's long-running medical drama series ER (1994–2009), for which she received a Primetime Emmy Award. In 2009, she took on the lead role of Alicia Florrick in the CBS legal drama The Good Wife (2009–2016).
