Mark Messier and Gretzky were everybody's favorite, but I always loved watching Tikkanen. He was always a piece of work out there. He was always yapping and trying to get under the other team's skin, and he was a really good player. That always got overlooked because of his antics. He always played against the other team's top players. I'd love to be that kind of player. I don't think I'll get to that caliber, but he always was one of my favorites.

I was just going through the motions but I didn't feel anything (wrong), so I just kept on going.
wrong feel
I can't believe I've bounced back so quickly.... But we want to take it easy. We don't want to go crazy.
crazy easy
When you don't play, you don't feel like you are part of the team. It was nice to be out there with the boys working hard and laughing and joking.
nice boys laughing feel play team hard working part
Yeah, I feel sore, but it's a good sore.
good feel
I spent some years in the minors and I put up some goals, but I came to the realization that if I want to make it in this league, that I had to do something that nobody else did on the team. And that was just kind of run around and be full of energy. When I did get my chance, I wanted to leave it all on the ice. Fortunately, they liked what I did so I just kept doing it. That's how I had to play to stay in the league.

Everybody wants to score goals and everybody should score a few goals a year so I'm definitely not happy with it, and, yeah, it's been a little frustrating. I'm definitely not here to score goals, but everybody's got to contribute something.
happy goals
Now it's almost like I'm snake-bitten, if there is such a thing for a non-goal scorer.
thing
You look on just about every team nowadays, they seem to have one guy like that. It can really help if a team comes out flat or there's a line that's not playing well.
