Alan Barton was an English musician, best known as a member of the band Black Lace, which had several UK Top 40 hits in the early 1980s. Barton was born in Alston, Cumbria and was the lead singer with the band Ebony, before joining Black Lace who achieved success with the chart hit "Agadoo". This song was first a hit in France and then became a worldwide hit. Barton also wrote several of Black Lace's songs, including the hits "Do The Conga" and "Superman". He died on board the ferry MS Herald of Free Enterprise, which capsized off the coast of Belgium on the 8th of March 1987. He was posthumously awarded a BRIT AWARD for his work.
