Ali Alatas
Ali Alatas was an Indonesian diplomat and statesman who served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1988 to 1999. He was one of the co-founders of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN). He was instrumental in founding the Southeast Asian Nuclear Weapons-Free Zone and in working for international peace and security in Southeast Asia. Alatas was highly regarded in the international community for his work and dedication to diplomatic justice. He was awarded many distinctions including the 1999 United Nations Prize in the Field of Human Rights.
