Andrew Murphy Quotes

Andrew Murphy

Andrew Murphy was an Australian politician and reformer who served as a senator in the Federal Parliament from 1901 to 1919. He was a champion of the rights of laborers and workers, advocating for the abolition of the "White Australia policy" which severely restricted immigration of non-white people. He also advocated for suffrage for women, naturalization of Indigenous Australians, secular education in public schools, and public control of monopolies. Throughout his career, he presented a number of bills in a futile effort to reform the system, but sadly most of his initiatives never came to fruition. His dedication to social reform and civil rights made him a beloved and respected figure in Australian politics.
