Alan Rusbridger is a British journalist and former editor-in-chief of The Guardian. He is best known for his involvement in the 2010 publication of United States diplomatic cables leaked by whistleblower Edward Snowden. During his tenure, The Guardian broke several major stories including the phone hacking scandal and the Edward Snowden story. He also had a key role in the development of The Guardian's digital journalism platform. Rusbridger retired from the paper in 2015 after two decades as editor-in-chief. Since then, he has held several high-profile roles, including as principal at Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford and as chairman at news agency Reuters. He currently serves as chairman of the Scott Trust, the organization that owns The Guardian.
