Alberto Moravia Quotes

Alberto Moravia

Alberto Moravia was an Italian novelist, journalist, short story writer, and film critic. He was a major contributor to 20th century literature and is one of the most widely read and appreciated Italian authors of all time. His writing career spanned nearly six decades, beginning in 1927 and ending shortly before his death in 1990. He was a modernist who pushed the boundaries of narrative fiction and explored difficult topics such as adultery, alienation and the struggle of life versus death. He is best known for his novel "The Conformist" (1951) which was later adapted into a film by Bernardo Bertolucci. Moravia received numerous awards throughout his lifetime, notably the Neustadt International Prize for Literature in 1986 and the Strega Prize in 1959. He was inducted into the European Academy of Arts and Letters in 1976.
