Alec Waugh
Alec Waugh was a British novelist, poet, journalist, and travel writer best known for his 1924 novel Island in the Sun. Waugh's work is noted for its humor and social criticism of British colonialism in the West Indies. He was born in London in 1898 and served in the Royal Flying Corps during World War I. Throughout his life, he was an avid traveler and spent considerable time in the Caribbean writing his novels. Waugh was awarded an Order of the British Empire in 1962.
