Alexander Shulgin
Alexander Shulgin was an American chemist and leading figure in psychedelic research. Shulgin is renowned for his work developing, synthesizing and exploring the effects of psychedelic drugs, particularly those of MDMA (known as ecstacy). Shulgin authored over 20 books which detail the effects of hundreds of psychedelic substances he developed, as well as his personal experiences with them. Shulgin also wrote an autobiography, PiHKAL: A Chemical Love Story, which chronicled his journey as a psychedelic chemist. Shulgin was a major figure in the 1960s San Francisco psychedelic scene, and his work has significantly impacted psychedelic literature and drug cultures. He is also credited with introducing MDMA to psychotherapists in the 1970s and 1980s.
