Anatole France (born Jacques Anatole François Thibault; 1844–1924) was a French poet, journalist, and novelist. He was a successful literary figure known for his sharp wit, elegant style, and deep knowledge of French history. He was most famous for his novel Les Dieux Ont Soif, which won the 1921 Nobel Prize for Literature. He wrote many works, such as The Revolt of the Angels, Penguin Island, Mont-Saint-Michel, and Thaïs, as well as various short stories, plays, and essays. He was an important advocate for pacifism and human rights, and he lived a long and prosperous life, during which he won numerous awards.
