Andreas Papandreou
Andreas Papandreou was an influential Greek politician who served as Prime Minister of Greece between 1981 and 1989, and then again between 1993 and 1996. He was a powerful advocate of socialism and Panhellenic nationalism, promoting progressive policies in the fields of education, civil rights, social welfare and environmental protection. Papandreou was also an effective leader in foreign affairs, strengthening the ties between Greece and its European partners and the United States, and helping to found the Socialist International as a vehicle to promotes progressive policies throughout the world. He died in 1996.
