As time goes on, people have to get back to their daily routines, but in the long term, it changes the way people look at the world. After Sept. 11, people have a greater sense of vulnerability.

When something like Sept. 11 or Pearl Harbor happens, it undermines people's taken for granted assumptions that day to day, things will be safe. Massive, really tragic disasters really do, over time, change the national psyche.
