Alice Schwarzer
Alice Schwarzer is a German feminist journalist and publisher who is one of the key figures in Germany's second wave of feminism. She is credited for the emergence of the debates on gender roles and equal rights in Germany in the 1970s and 1980s. Schwarzer founded the women's magazine EMMA in 1977, which has been credited with having a major influence on how women were viewed in German society. She has written several books on sexism and her political activism also includes efforts to secure better access for women to employment and leadership roles. Her work has earned her several awards, including Germany's prestigious Theodor-Heuss-Prize (2011) and Honorary Doctorates from the Universities of Barcelona and Paris-Sorbonne (2007).
