Andrew Young
Andrew Young is an American politician, diplomat, and civil rights activist. Young was a leader in the Civil Rights Movement, serving as a close adviser to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. before being elected as a U.S. Congressman in 1972, and then as the Mayor of Atlanta from 1982 to 1990. In 1977, President Jimmy Carter appointed Young as the Permanent Representative to the United Nations, making him the first African-American chosen to this position. Young’s unwavering commitment to justice and equal rights has earned him numerous awards and honors, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
