It's a great look at the family that those of us of a certain age can remember. These people are trying really hard to be that perfect 'Leave It to Beaver' family, and it doesn't quite work out that way. It has a message, but it's not too heavy.

Almost, Maine is the best single-ticket-selling show in the history of Portland Stage. It did indeed sell out during its four week run in our season. We, unfortunately, were unable to extend because of its position in the season, but would have loved to do so. Audiences were charmed by the intimate, funny scenes. Many remarked that it was great to see small town U.S.A. Reflected so clearly on stage.

I have really gotten my hands on new material, stuff just really out of the gates. Even if you are going all over the country, there is a fresher sense that you won't have seen these in other places. And that's a really nice thing for me to feel.

I find it amazingly truthful and honest and funny, because it is so spot-on in its relationships between people.

It's quirky and yet there are very real people in it. The beauty of it is, yes, it's Maine, but it could be any small town in the United States.
