These deaths are an unfortunate reminder that West Nile virus can be a serious health threat, although death is extremely rare.

The outbreak is confined to residents and staff and people closely associated with this one facility, so it's not a general public health risk.

What we see now is the outbreak winding down to some extent. There have been fewer new cases per day occurring over the weekend and we have had no new cases today [Monday]

There have been, unfortunately, two additional deaths, both among residents.
Although the condition of some ill residents has worsened and unfortunately four more have died, others are improving and we are confident this outbreak is under control.
