With ceramic capacitors, a lot of the content really is proprietary intellectual property. But with standard interconnects, it doesn't matter. Everybody knows exactly what's in the component. So in that case, the lack of full disclosure is a cop out.

This is definitely an area that frustrates suppliers when they're asked for complete materials composition. Suppliers have expressed concerns about giving away their secret sauce, so some of them are listing 2 [percent] to 4 percent of their content as proprietary. They simply won't tell you want that is.
