We went out on the Harris chain. They got some wildlife ideas, photos of turtles and birds and we were lucky enough to catch a fish. Neither one of them caught one, but I have invited them to go fishing with me later on, hopefully, on a pleasure trip.

Have we created a new PCB problem for ourselves?.. We have dug this hole for ourselves. It's like DDT; we find out it harms birds, and we pull it off the market. With PCBs, we find it causes health problems, and we pull it off the market. We have to learn the lesson.

Right now the day length is exactly the same as in spring when birds key into it and begin singing. The birds are a little confused by it all and the singing isn't very intense. It only lasts a week or so each fall, but it's still cool to hear spring bird songs at this time of the year.

Most people feel that birds evolved from one kind of dinosaur. But our bad luck was to find the other kind of dinosaur, and unfortunately it has a bird-like heart too. So this means that bird-like hearts may be typical of highly evolved, late-in-the-era, dinosaurs -- they were evolving, they were changing.

I have an understanding about disease and the relationship to birds and animals. I won't know near as much as staff veterinarians and researchers, but I will be able to understand what they are talking about and hope to help integrate that into what we are doing.

The birds aren't that far away; they will show back up. They are pretty mobile. Birds tend to move around in the winter (to) where conditions are best for them.

It has more potential for wintering birds. I consider it a migration/wintering area, where I consider the rest of the state migration areas. Mallards tend to winter as far north as they can find open water.

I would think the pheasant season will be half as good as it was last year, because there are going to be half as many birds out there. You're not just going to be able to walk out on the Game Lands and expect to shoot a bird.

Later in the season, I think it's going be pretty slim pickings. Pheasant season is.. A stocked, put-and-take situation. Once those birds are dead, they're done and there are no native birds to hunt. That's just the way it is.
