Alan Wells is a former professional football (soccer) player, who played as a midfielder for clubs such as Bolton Wanderers, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Coventry City in the English Football League. He also had short spells with clubs such as Everton and Stoke City, and was considered one of the best English players of his time. He gained his first professional contract at age 17 with Bolton and played a total of 381 professional matches. Wells was a very good reader of the game on the pitch and was known for his passing vision and his ability to drive with the ball. He was capped once for England and was in the squad for the 1986 World Cup. After retirement, he became a coach and has worked with numerous clubs in the Midlands.
