One of the reasons SCOPE reaches students so early is to get to them before they have to take the SAT, and it is early enough that they can recover academically or still take the courses they would need to take to get accepted into college.

It's a 24-7 program for us. We're always calling or e-mailing students to keep in touch. We continue to talk to them about college admissions, what classes to take, how to find financial aid, and similar issues.

Since Hurricane Katrina, the people of LSU -- students, coaches, administrators, staff and professors -- have played an indispensable role in assisting evacuees and the injured being helped in its campus facilities. Now that the need for this effort is winding down, the LSU campus is anxious to return to as much normalcy as possible,.. The SEC is cognizant of that and will follow its normal procedures as it comes to television selection and game management issues.

I think as an educational institution, at some point during a student's journey, it becomes important to understand the origins of our country,.. To provide that opportunity is to encourage all students, staff and faculty to take advantage of this experience. It is my hope that after this week, many of us will have both a greater understanding and appreciation of what the Constitution means to us.

That's why our students are so versatile. Those are the same skills that you'll need as a business executive, architect, librarian or social worker. There are not many jobs that require skills that psychology majors don't have.

Integration started with the students that came in that had nothing to do with basketball, nothing to do with sports. The second year, then the basketball part came in. That's the thing that kind of kicked the whole thing off.

The philosophy is that these students need special, early attention in order to be ready for kindergarten and first grade. We want them, when they leave this program, to be at the same level as other students who have benefits and resources at home that they don't. Our goal is to equalize the playing field.

For students in Iowa, I think it sends the wrong message. I think it undermines our credibility when in one area we have the authority to set standards, we have such a minimum that is, in my opinion, embarrassing.

It's being called the '65 percent solution,' but we regard it as really 100 percent deception. It's a shameful and deceptive effort to distract people from the real issues facing students and schools.

Our polling around [the initiative] indicated that it would be highly unlikely to succeed. We're relieved. This initiative would have been distracting to the real issue of students and schools facing inadequate funding levels in our state.

This is the first time that we did not meet our Annual Yearly Progress for students across the board,.. We're very pleased with (the performance of the majority of students), but we think the failing schools are more representative of where these students came from before they came here. We don't think its fair to label this school as failing.
