You are not right for our band, INXS.

We hooked up with Steve because we liked his resume and what we heard of his past work. It was a stretch for us to be working with him and a stretch for him to be working with a band like us, because he'd never been in the studio with anyone as aggressive and heavy as we are.

We love doing these kinds of big package tours, because it gives you the chance to play in front of a lot of people who might not normally hear your music. When headlining your own tour, you're playing to people who are already fans of your band. On a huge tour like this, you're reaching a huge new audience every night.

I love everything about performing -- seeing the people's reaction, feeling the band. Every night is different.

This band really has to be seen to be heard, if that makes any sense. One of our favorite things to do on this entire planet is to walk into a new market with a stone-cold audience who doesn't know quite what to expect and watch faces turn from sort of quizzical disdain to smiles. They may even be singing along with a chorus or two after a while.

That gave him satisfaction that he would have been considered good enough to play for that band.

On the one hand, you had such great success in the music business, and on the flip side there was so much personal tragedy. It makes for such an interesting story. I think that's one reason the public relates to this band. They know these guys are still human beings.

We've always tried to do different things with the sound of the band, but with this record we've tried to keep the essence of what it is to be a rock 'n' roll band at the forefront. I suppose that is a radical sound because there's not that much of it out there.

Most groups, I think, would have been taking their foot of the gas at this point. But we have the exact opposite instinct. We are flooring this rock 'n' roll band, and we're just interested to see where we will end up.

I grew up in the Sixties, when the music was very open,.. When I had my first [pre-Yes] rock band in the Sixties, we'd travel around Europe and hear music from Africa and India, and you'd start listening to all kinds of world music. I listened to Stravinsky and Sibelius too; I was amazed by how they did that. In the Seventies that all came out in pop-rock music.

If you're gonna be in a band, you can't sit in the studio the whole time.. I'd like to do more of the only thing I can do really well, apart from screwing.[Richards]

Class action lawsuits are an important part of our legal system. All citizens should have the right to band together and settle grievances with bigger companies, but that system is broken and it needs fixing.

I had no interest in an actor who has a band. But then I realized he was just some (New) Jersey kid who moved to New York to play in a band, and the whole acting thing was just something he fell into. Music was his real deal.

It was a bit like what's the best way to find a new lead singer, someone who doesn't already have a band? And for us to check them out (over a period of time). We had the luxury on a television show of watching people over 13 weeks, to see them grow or not grow.

We probably didn't even consider becoming a guitar band again. We used to be a guitar band when we started out and we've been there. The sounds on this record are really exciting and expressive of the lyrics and the music.

A band with no history can get 40,000 people looking at its video just by getting on the site and doing some work. It's a strong incentive. The technology has changed so much in the past six or seven years. You can make a video cheaply. The quality may be lacking, but I think fans get excited when they discover a band that's made its own record or video. They're the first to see them underground.

Since [Pink Floyd's] The Wall, this has never been done. A third of the movie is CGI, a third of the movie is a documentary and a third of it is a love story. And it basically tells the story of the breakup of one of the biggest bands in the world and the creation of the world's greatest rock band,.. It's a documentary about the past year of my life. But the whole thing is done with metaphors and analogies of World War II. Because World War II was good versus evil, the grand sense of purpose, and seeing as though I started this new part of my life specifically for my family, I felt that it would be an appropriate reference point rather than using modern images.
