I'm pleased that Jeremy from the Sundresses has encouraged us, 'cause I'm a fan of that band.

A lot of times we don't get home until 3 a.m., if we've got a bigger band.

Each member had an unmistakable instrumental voice, and every band member had a crucial role.

When we were a club band, we always used to say, 'Man, if we ever see success, we'd like to open doors for other people, to push the boundaries and fully contribute something to art, to music, that is going to help it evolve instead of doing stuff for the sake of money or doing stuff for the sake of being popular.

Quite frankly, I'm a little bit bored with fucking mass-marketed, auto-tuned, hellacious music. I still find the rock and roll album can be an amazing thing. It seems to me we've become a very cultish band, and the people that like us feel an emotional connection and feel like they know us, and I think that's high praise.

We start out doing spiritual music for the church band. Then, we send the rest of the band home and work on secular stuff.

We've always had that living room, write-the-song-on-an-acoustic sound. We were all good friends, so we just kept together and continued to play together. We'd play shows. We didn't have a new band name or anything. Things just began to take shape. The music thing just fell into place.

It doesn't really apply anymore. When the band started out, I was writing folk and country songs, but it began moving beyond that as early as the second album. It's been a natural change.

[On Shred, the fraternal interplay is unmistakable.] I've been playing with my brother pretty much my whole life,.. I haven't been in a band without him. We can jam all night if we want to, just making shit up on the spot. So when it comes to writing songs, we're always pretty much locked in, we've been playing for so long together.

[Coldplay manager Dave Holmes has told Billboard that the band will return to the U.S. For another tour in 2006 and may record a new album next year too. Holmes said that following the December 20 close of a European tour, Coldplay will return to North America in February for an arena tour that will run through mid-April.] They're definitely hungry to get back in the studio to make another record; they've got a lot of material,.. So for next year we're looking at building a tour around their recording schedule. Ultimately it could potentially mean we end up releasing another record [next year] and continuing to tour well into '07.

A heavy band of snow is moving up to that area right now. We've had reports of 4 inches in Maddock.

The first day he came in and sang on 'Set Me Free,' we were like, 'OK, this is the guy.' That's why we had to get him in the band and work through all the arrests and stuff.

In this band, it's pretty democratic. Anyone can come in with a part. I've been in bands where the parts pretty much got shot down immediately. This is the first band I've been in where everyone was willing to at least try.

Part of me wishes some of the more obsessive fans would spend a fraction of the time (they spend studying the band) on politics

We all have different kinds of tastes and thoughts about what we are all about because the music is such a personal thing for us... I think we have always made an effort to make our lyrics build a bridge between the personal experiences we have and the personal experiences of someone coming to a show. That people say it has helped them in some way puts the highest meaning in the band. We feel we are out there making a living doing what we love, and it is affecting people.

Aficionados might be worried about the original band. But after the second song they won't be worrying. It's on a roll. I'm very confident about the way the show is at the moment.

It's about
a white family and a black family living in modern day North Mississippi but
the white family's mind set is that of 1869 and no matter what you do it won't
change, they still think and talk the way they would in 1869, so it's really
pushing it,.. My character is a member of black rock
band who works at Sonic, but he is moving upward and is in direct conflict with
the white family. I think that it's really going to push the envelope and address
the issue of race relations in America, even if we don't want to.

I didn't really want to have a band name. I didn't want to name our upcoming album either if I could help it.
We were productive in the '90s. It just was the music scene then was just grunge. We never really lost our following and we never really became a grunge band. We became what we were... We just kept evolving what we were into a better us.

We're a global band. In 1995, we played 42 countries. So when America did that trend, when grunge came in, we didn't change to be that. We stayed true to who we were, played the world and continued to grow.

That's kind of a similar story for the rest of the guys in the band. Nobody's from there, but from different parts of Texas.
