I said to them to step it up, raise your level of play and be more intense. The team responded, particularly the bench and Ryan Fischer. Fischer was sensational tonight, and he was finally playing point guard the way we need him to for our offense to be effective.

We needed to generate some offense. You can't score without getting some shots on net.

When we're playing well, we're usually on the run. If we can rebound and play solid defense, things are going well. Our defense leads to offense.

We are fortunate to have proven returning players on attack and we will look to them for not just their scoring ability, but their leadership as well. It will be exciting to watch this pair lead our offense.

Maggie really gave us a big boost. She picked up that third foul and I was a little worried about it. But we brought her in and she was instant offense for us. That's what seniors do.
offense big
We're very scrappy. We're going to have to rely on defense until we can get the offense (on track).

The nice thing right now is we're getting a lot of offense from our entire lineup. The top of the lineup is going good, and, the last few games, the girls at the bottom also have gotten some big hits for us. The girls are doing a good job at the plate.
games nice girls good offense job big thing
We play better defense than we do offense. We try to score off our defense. We concentrate a lot more on our defense. We've been working on it a lot the last couple of weeks and that's helped us a lot.

Maybe the final four a few years ago (2002 against Stanford). Just too many weapons. Nebraska was too balanced tonight. A lot of times we were confused because they were running an offense we really hadn't seen. We just finally got down. We needed to have somebody to rally the troops and no one did. Everybody was in a daze.

I think our defense is clearly ahead of where our offense is right now. We recognize that we have a veteran setter who we think will help us catch up in a hurry.
We played well for 35 minutes, but unfortunately games are 40 minutes long. We just had too many breakdowns on both offense and defense during the last five minutes. We have to give Southern credit though. They are much improved from last year.
games offense defense southern credit give
One thing I'm really proud of with this team is that our kids don't let their offense affect the way they play defense. Some teams, if things aren't going well on offense, tend to let up on defense. But we don't, and you could see that today.
today kids play team things offense defense proud teams thing
St. Thomas made a great adjustment in the spacing of their offense at the start of the second half. But I was really proud of our kids, because they recognized what was happening, and they made exactly the defensive adjustments they needed to make.

Offense sells tickets. Defense wins championships.
I really didn't expect a whole lot of offense at 9: 30 in the morning from either side.

We have a good scheme. We're causing some people problems. They've been the focus while our offense gets more experience.
people experience problems good focus offense
Leonard can make big plays; he's already shown that.. The biggest thing about this team is they have talent and experience on offense. These guys are all seniors and most of them have played for two or three years.
talent experience team guys offense plays big thing
We still have a lot of work to do. It was real obvious there were a lot of plays out there that we kind of left on the field, particularly on offense.

We're trying to bring him along (slowly). He's very athletic. Overall though, our offense still shot itself in the foot.
offense shot
Donny was really frustrated because Lee kept grabbing his elbow and he couldn't use that patented headlock of his. Donny really likes to use that headlock and that's 90 percent of his offense. He also likes to dominate on top and he was able to do that the whole second period and in the third when he got the escape.
escape offense
You can just see it. (Quarterback) Mike Lomas and the rest of the guys on offense have a great grasp of what we?re trying to do because they haven?t had to learn a new system. They?re working on refining what they know instead of learning a new offense.
rest system learning learn guys offense working great
We have to be able to run the ball on a consistent basis. We open up at Wilkes and you never know what the weather is going to be like this time of year. You can?t count on throwing the ball 40 or 50 times a game. Plus, in this league, you have to be able to manage the football and manage the clock. The way some of these teams are, the best way to beat them is to keep their offense off the field.

To be successful, we have to be able to protect Mike (Lomas) and run the ball. That?s where the offensive line comes in. We have some good young kids up there, they just need some seasoning. That?s where the stability in the offense helps because most of those kids have been in the system for two years so they know and understand the blocking schemes.

That game showed just the kind of player he is. He was 17 of 25 from the field, 5 of 8 from 3 (point range). He did everything within our offense. It wasn't like he went one-on-one on every possession and put up 50 shots.
game kind possession offense
I thought the offense would just go out there and do its thing,.. Earlier in the game we were trying to force plays. Toward the end of the game we were just going with the flow.
