The parody is the last refuge of the frustrated writer. Parodies are what you write when you are associate editor of the Harvard Lampoon. The greater the work of literature, the easier the parody. The step up from writing parodies is writing on the w

When I write, I'm trying to put what I love into music. Everything through my life, the music that inspired me. It's a crystallization, and to be honest, it has to involve modern culture. It's gotta have elements of rock 'n' roll, because I used to love rock 'n' roll. It's gotta have a hint of jazz, it's gotta have everything that turned me on. If it was just a parody of what's been in the past, that's not honest. Music has to move forward and be creative.

Just as a group like Exodus has a constitutionally protected right to say whatever it wants to about gay people, even when that view has been roundly condemned by every major psychological and medical organization, Justin has a right to use parody to voice his opposition.

We've got some stuff coming up that will really continue to expand the universe more and more and more, and make people realize that this is not just a parody. There's a whole world we're exploring here, and so far there's nothing but (comedic) possibility ahead.

If you look at Gilbert and Sullivan, they were played to be the English equivalents of Jacques Offenbach's operettas. They're full of gags, funny situations and parody, which was the typical humor of the time.

I wanted it to be not only a parody but a teaching tool. This is my way of putting my political ideas forward. There's a lot of apathy, and we have to realize that we're in a democracy, that we're all allowed to say something.

The goal here was to work almost a parody of war-time films. As the wrap moves closer toward its owner the water turns slowly red, which in many other films during a war would be blood, the shot is almost a cliche. So it's a surprise to discover the red is simply dye bleeding into the water. We added the gentle roll of the stream and the bleeding dye to reflect a peaceful resolution. It was important to get the rhythm just right. Slow, subtle, and tranquil.

(Parody that is often falsely believed to be a true quote of Mariah Carey's) Whenever I watch TV and see those poor starving kids all over the world, I can't help but cry. I mean I'd love to be skinny like that but not with all those flies and death and stuff.

Captain Smek himself appeared on television for an official speech to humankind. [..] 'Noble Savages of Earth,' he said. 'Long time we have tried to live together in peace.' (It had been five months.) 'Long time have the Boov suffered under the hostileness and intolerableness of you people. With sad hearts I now concede that Boov and humans will never to exist as one.' I remember being really excited at this point. Could I possibly be hearing right? Were the Boov about to leave? I was so stupid.'And so now I generously grant you Human Preserves - gifts of land that will be for humans forever, never to be taken away again, now.' [..] So that's when we Americans were given Florida. One state for three hundred million people. There were going to be some serious lines for the bathrooms.
