He's got a reputation because he makes things humorous and funny and intriguing. When you're a librarian you don't have a whole lot of free time so I think people appreciate that his reviews are quick and to the point.

He was very bright and talented. What he did was learn his craft well. As he said, you can't be stupid and get eight gold records in the music market... He studied what he needed to do as a legislator. But he also had wonderful timing, and he was just naturally a humorous person, and when you combine that and the timing he learned from the entertainment industry, he was just a knockout.

It is an amazing show. It's humorous, sad, everything. Full of comedy, it switches to drama, back and forth, just like real life. It's got the most realistic dialogue I've ever read.

I do find it humorous to hear 'IRS' and 'CRM' in the same sentence together,.. I think it's important that the government is realizing that it may have a monopoly but that it can't get away with acting like one.

[Though he doesn't write political songs, Sixteen Military Wives (a track off Picaresque, the band's third and latest full-length album) does have political overtones, as seen in the humorous video clip depicting a model United Nations conference in a high school with the U.S. Representative acting like a self-important bully.] It's kind of a protest song,.. My objective is to make sense of foreign policy decisions taken by the current Bush administration and showing how they resemble solipsistic bullying.

The purpose of the Master of Cinema award is to honor someone who has mastered their craft, and Ned Beatty is a master of what is almost a lost art. He is a true character actor who can really register in any role - large or small, dramatic or humorous.

He was affable, humorous, unassuming, intelligent. He didn't lead a lavish lifestyle - I doubt if he even owned his own house. He didn't drink too much. He didn't gamble. He didn't drive a flashy car. His wife never wore fur.

It's gutsy of Jean to give up a lot of the inner workings of the beauty industry, the way we all go to press lunches at the Four Seasons and still complain about it. The way she captured the surreal world we live in is very humorous.

It's a very complex, thoughtful and aesthetically rich body of work. It's easier in a way to appreciate its sensual qualities without his humorous, yet slightly menacing presence. A lot of people who could never have coped with him when he was alive are now buying his work.

We try to put humorous stuff in there. We try to reflect our personalities in the music and lyrics, and we're just weird, goofy guys. We don't want to give off that overly dark vibe. We want to get away from that and make it kind of fun. Our lyrics are very tongue in cheek and sarcastic and not overly serious.

He'd never asked for an exciting life. What he really liked, what he sought on every occasion, was boredom. The trouble was that boredom tended to explode in your face. Just when he thought he'd found it he'd be suddenly involved in what he supposed other people - thoughtless, feckless people - would call an adventure. And he'd be forced to visit many strange lands and meet exotic and colourful people, although not for very long because usually he'd be running. He'd seen the creation of the universe, although not from a good seat, and had visited Hell and the afterlife. He'd been captured, imprisoned, rescued, lost and marooned. Sometimes it had all happened on the same day.

The world, every day, is New. Only for those born in, say, 1870 or so, can there be a meaningful use of the term postmodernism, because for the rest of us we are born and we see and from what we see and digest we remake our world. And to understand it we do not need to label it, categorize it. These labels are slothful and dismissive, and so contradict what we already know about the world, and our daily lives. We know that in each day, we laugh, and we are serious. We do both, in the same day, every day. But in our art we expect clear distinction between the two.. But we don't label our days Serious Days or Humorous Days. We know that each day contains endless nuances - if written would contain dozens of disparate passages, funny ones, sad ones, poignant ones, brutal ones, the terrifying and the cuddly. But we are often loathe to allow this in our art. And that is too bad..

I picked up one of the books and flipped through it. Don't get me wrong, I like reading. But some books should come with warning labels: Caution: contains characters and plots guaranteed to induce sleepiness. Do not attempt to operate heavy machinery after ingesting more than one chapter. Has been known to cause blindness, seizures and a terminal loathing of literature. Should only be taken under the supervision of a highly trained English teacher. Preferably one who grades on the curve.
